SASKATOON, Sask. – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies are one win away from a perfect regular season.
Following a lopsided 87-39 victory over the Winnipeg Wesmen Friday night (Feb. 6) on the Ron & Jane Graham Centre Court, the Huskies improved their record to 19-0 with one game remaining in the 2025-26 regular season.
Tomorrow in a rematch with the Wesmen, the Huskies will look to join the 1971-72 team as the only squads to finish the regular season undefeated. Friday's victory also extended the Dogs' overall win streak to 49 games, the fifth-longest in the history of Canadian university women's basketball, as Saskatchewan remains the lone team in U SPORTS without a loss.
Saskatchewan set the tone early, jumping out to a 26-10 first-quarter lead behind relentless defensive pressure and efficient play at the offensive end. Forcing the Wesmen into nine turnovers the top-ranked team in the nation capitalized on their opportunities with 11 field goals on 55% shooting.
The early momentum was led by several Huskies, with nine players getting on the scoresheet in the opening frame.
In the second, the Huskies continued to add to their lead, outscoring Winnipeg 22-10 to take a 48-20 halftime advantage.
The third quarter put the game firmly out of reach for the Wesmen, with Saskatchewan matching their first-quarter production with 26 points while holding the visitors to just four.
Ella Murphy Wiebe and
Olivia Harm made their presence felt under the basket to lead the Dogs in the frame, registering six points each.
With a 50-point lead, Saskatchewan cycled through their bench in the final frame which saw nearly every dressing student-athlete see the floor. Despite being outscored 15-13, the Huskies took home sixth 40+ point win this season.
Gage Grassick finished with a game-high 17 points, adding six assists, five rebounds, and three steals in a strong all-around performance. Murphy Wiebe contributed 14 points, six rebounds, and five assists, while Tea DeMong chipped in 11 points and
Andrea Dodig added solid work on both ends. Saskatchewan's depth was also on full display, as the bench accounted for 29 points, and the team finished with 25 assists on 30 made field goals.
Jennifer Kallon and Jazmin Birch led Winnipeg with eight points apiece, while the visitors committed 24 turnovers, which proved too costly to overcome.
The two teams will return to the Physical Activity Complex tomorrow evening to close out the 2025-26 regular season at 5:00 PM.
