Huskies topple Heat in straight sets

KELOWNA, B.C. – Despite service struggles from both teams on Friday night it was the Saskatchewan Huskies who came out on top, beating the UBC Okanagan Heat in three sets.

The two squads would combine for 33 errors from the line in the three set match, including 10 from the visiting Huskies in the first set alone.

These struggles from the service line would not affect their attack however, as they hit .289 as a team on the night to propel themselves to the three set victory.

Ben Magel made his first career start for the Heat, recording a team-high six digs while Cam Vanderveen led the way offensively with six kills.

For the Huskies it was Dylan Mortensen (10 kills) once again leading the attack, as he ups his season total to just under 100 for the season.

Saskatchewan took the opener (25-15) despite those aforementioned errors as they had 13 kills and just two hitting errors in the opening set.

UBCO had their chance to make it a match in the second, as they came back to tie things up at 20-all but were unable to close the deal, eventually falling (25-21).

All momentum would be on the visitors side in the third as they captured the final frame (25-18) to complete their fourth victory of the season.

The Heat (0-7) and Huskies (4-3) will meet up once again tomorrow night in the Okanagan gym with the first serve slated for 8 p.m.
