SJHL Champion Nicholas Andrusiak Signs With Huskie Men's Hockey

SASKATOON, Sask. - The University of Saskatchewan Huskie Men's Hockey team and head coach Brandin Cote announced today the signing of former SJHL defenceman Nicholas Andrusiak.

"We're really excited to add a mobile defenceman like Nicholas to our roster," said Cote. "He brings a strong two-way game, has been successful at both the SJHL and WHL levels, and we believe his offensive upside will only continue to grow as he develops with us."

"I'm super excited [to be joining the Huskies], they were my first choice and as soon as they showed interest and offered me there was no question I was going to take it," said Andrusiak. "Everything there is top notch, the facility is unbelievable, the rink, the gym, the team room, and then you take the school into account which is unbelievable too."

A 5-foot-11 defenceman from Tisdale, Andrusiak joins the Huskies after helping the Melfort Mustangs to an SJHL title which followed a two-year career in the WHL. A mobile, puck moving blueliner, he recorded seven goals and 31 points in 44 regular season games while helping the Mustangs to a league-best record of 46-8-2. In the 2024-25 SJHL playoffs, he totaled nine points (2 goals, 7 assists) in 10 contests as the Mustangs captured a conference championship and appeared in the national CJHL final.

The Mustangs were not Andrusiak's only stop in the SJHL, as he also played 75 games between the 2021-22 and 2022-23 season with the Melville Millionaires, totaling 18 points.

After playing 20 games for the Millionaires in 2022-23, the left shot defenceman was called up by the WHL's Portland Winterhawks where he appeared in two games before being dealt to the Red Deer Rebels. After closing out the 2022-23 season with the Rebels, Andrusiak was back on the move, this time being sent to the Saskatoon Blades. In total, he appeared in 77 WHL games, recording eight points and a plus/minus rating of +11.

Andrusiak will join a fellow SJHL champion Zac Somers on the Huskies, who is also featured in the 2025-26 men's hockey recruiting class.
