Grassick & DeMong's Double-Doubles Lead Huskies to Double-Digit Win

WINNIPEG, Man. - Fifth year guard Gage Grassick proved why she's the reigning U Sports Women's Basketball Player of the Year as she dropped 24 points and added 10 rebounds and 8 assists as the Saskatchewan Huskies won big over the Manitoba Bisons 100-63 to move to 5-0 on the season. Manitoba fell to 0-4.

The Huskies spread out their offense and flexed their depth as four of their five starters finished in double digits as along with Grassick, Tea DeMong had 24 points and 13 rebounds, and both Logan Reider and Maya Flindall finished with 17 points each.

Fourth year guard Ayva Khan led the way for the Bisons with 12 points, while freshman Taylor Schepp had 10. Treyah Paquette provided a spark off the bench putting up 6 points in 19 minutes.

While both teams shot 44% from the floor, it was the Huskies strong defending and rebounding that made the difference as they finished with 13 steals, led by DeMong with 6, compared to just 4 total for the Bisons. The Huskies also excelled on the glass, picking up 31 offensive rebounds leading to important second chance points, compared to just 8 for the Bisons.

The Huskies are the defending U Sports National Champions and back-to-back defending Canada West Champions. The two teams will meet again tomorrow at 6:00pm for a re-match.
