Huskies Take Down Spartans 7-1 in Ethan Chadwick's Huskie Debut

SASKATOON, Sask. - After a dominant 6-1 win over the Trinity Western Spartans last night (Nov. 8) at Merlis Belsher Place, the Huskies were looking for a repeat performance to improve their record to 9-3-0 on the season. The stage was set and the dedicated Huskie Fans were in for an absolute barn burner of a game.

After some exciting back and forth play in the first ten minutes it was the Dogs who found themselves on the advantage going on an early Power Play. Not wasting a second, Saskatchewan's Ethan Regnier was able to fire one past Spartans goaltender Raphael Audet to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead with ten minutes left to go in the first.

The Huskies were no strangers to being on the Power Play in last nights game and that didn't change in the second matchup as the Dogs went on the advantage once again in then dying minutes of the period. Despite the efforts of the Huskies, the Spartans were able to fend off the barrage of shots and kill the rest of penalty keeping the score at 1-0 going into the second.

The Huskies showed no signs of slowing down going into the second as they came out flying adding to their already significant shot lead of 25-8. It wasn't long before fans in attendance saw Huskies Assistant Captain Dawson Holt add to his impressive 16 points on the season with a bar down blast giving the Huskies a 2-0 lead.

Holt would finish the night with three point to take sole possession of the scoring lead in the conference.

Not content with a two goal lead, the Huskies went ahead and sent two more goals past Audet within minutes of each other thanks to Ty Prefontaine and Josh Pillar finding the back of the net, cementing the Dog's lead.

The seemingly unstoppable Huskie Power Play was back at it again but it was short lived as what seemed like only seconds later, third-year forward Carter Stebbings put away his third goal of the season that would give the dominant Huskie squad a very comfortable 5-0 lead.

In the final minutes of the second the Spartans would find themselves on a two-man advantage giving the Huskie penalty kill their first taste of action in the game. Whatever momentum Trinity Western had was snuffed out by Huskie goalie Ethan Chadwick who made his season debut between the pipes. With only 20 minutes remaining in the lop-sided bout, Chadwick and the Dogs were looking to shut out the Spartans and improve their record.

Huskie forward Josh Pillar had a hard time staying off of the stat sheet as he sent his 4th goal of the season past Audet just 5:39 into the third, giving him a staggering four points in the game. The Spartans found themselves on a late period power play where Johnathan Krahn put one past Chadwick finally putting TWU on the board.

To close out the game and cement the Dogs victory, Cohner Saleski put away his first goal of the season, giving the Huskies the decisive 7-1 win and sending Merlis Belsher Place into a frenzy of excitement.
