MBB: Huskies Take the Weekend Series Against the TWU Spartans

SASKATOON, SK – After a thrilling 104-87 win over the Trinity Western Spartans on Friday night, the Saskatchewan Huskies were looking to capitalize on that momentum on Saturday at the Physical Activity Complex.

The Huskies starting five consisted of Erwin Loic, Tyrese Potoma, Alexander Dewar, Fisayo Moibi aand Maxwell Amoafo. Down the court, Tre Fimore, David Mutabazi, Daniel Stead, Connor Platz and Josh Belvin started for the Spartans.

The first quarter opened slow on the offensive side – after five minutes TWU lead 11-6. Trinity Western turned up the pace and outscored Saskatchewan 11-4. The opening quarter fell in favour of the Spartans as they shot 40% from the field to outpower the Huskies 26.7%.

The second quarter started out in the hands of the Spartans as they added a quick 12 points to their lead. However, the Huskie defensive took the show to allow for a 14-0 scoring run for USask. The Huskies would head into the half down by five points.

It was a different team that came out at halftime. Head Coach Jamie Campbell made some adjustments, and a focused Huskie team started the second half. Saskatchewan opened the quarter with a 13-0 scoring run, thanks to some incredible defense. The Huskies would lead 53-46 heading into the fourth quarter.

Fourth quarter was all Huskies as they pushed the Spartans to the limit. With just under two minutes to go, Head Coach Jamie Campbell would pull his starters, and give his bench the opportunity to hit the court against the fourth ranked Spartans. The Huskies would be too much for the Spartans, taking the win 82-64.

Leading the Huskies was Alexander Dewar, with 24 points. Maxwell Amoafo would hit the stat sheet with 17 points and ten rebounds. For the Spartans, Connor Platz would put up 18 points and eight rebounds.
