SASKATOON, SK – The Huskies opened the 2022-2023 season on Friday night with a 99-11 win over the MRU Cougars. The Dogs were looking to capitalize on that performance but ultimately fell to the Cougars 94-75.
Starting lineup for the Huskies included
Alexander Dewar, Tyrese Potoma,
Fisayo Moibi, Jude Shepherd-Hills and
Maxwell Amoafo. The Cougars were led by Keivonte Watts, Holt Tomie, Daniel Mulder, Daniel Owoeye, and Ijah Nelson.
The first quarter saw
Alexander Dewar and Keivonte Watts start out strong, with both men picking up 10 points in the first. It was a strong three-point percentage of 43% over the Huskies 11% that put MRU in the lead 22-16.
The second quarter was all Huskies outscoring the Cougars 24-18 to tie the game at 40-40 at the half. Again, it was
Alexander Dewar leading the Huskies offence with 13 points and Keivonte Watts with seven points for the Cougars. Both teams were 100% from the line in the second quarter, proving that both teams were fired up and ready to play some ball.
It was MRU who dominated the third quarter, 27-15 with Holt Tomie at 12 points with strong support from Watts with seven. The Huskies offense struggled in the third, with a three-point percentage of 25%. Tyrese Potoma led the charge with eight points for the Huskies but it was MRU who led at the end of the third quarter 67-55.
Tomie and Watts continued to control the game offence, putting up 13 and 10 points respectfully in the fourth. It was their performance that proved to be too much for the Huskies, who ended the night with a 94-75 loss.

Keivonte Watts led the MRU Cougars with 34 points, with heavy support from Holt Tomie's 22 points.
