MBB: Huskies Drop Two Games to the Regina Cougars

REGINA, SK – There's always a lot on the line when the Saskatchewan Huskies take on their provincial rivals, the Regina Cougars. This weekend was no different as the Dogs travelled to our provincial capital for a two-game matchup. Ultimately, it was the Cougars who reigned supreme as they would take both games.

FRIDAY NIGHT

The Cougars had a huge second quarter, outscoring Saskatchewan 26-12 to take a 46-29 lead at the half. Saskatchewan brought the Regina lead down to single digits by the end of the third and would go on a 10-2 run to start the fourth, bringing the game within one point at 67-66. The Cougars answered down the stretch in the fourth, going on a massive 17-2 run to pull away with the 87-72 win.

Majok Madol would prove to be a force for the Cougars, finishing with 17 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks.

Alexander Dewar continues to be an important piece of the Huskies offence, with 22 points, and three rebounds. Maxwell Amoafo added an impressive 16 points, eight rebounds and two blocks.

SATURDAY NIGHT

Looking to grab the win on Saturday night, the Huskies defence put the pressure on the Cougars but their offence would prove to be too much for the Dogs.

Saskatchewan tied the game up with an Alexander Dewar bucket on the opening possession of the fourth quarter, but Regina changed the momentum and used a massive 20-2 run in the fourth to grab the 78-66 win. Nick Barnard would be leading scorer for the Cougars with 17 points.

Saskatchewan's Kessler Bishop put up impressive numbers in game two, with 21 points, 12 rebounds and one block. Teammate Fisayo Moibi added 15 points, three rebounds and two steals.

"Those were two hard-fought, physical battles out there this weekend so we're just happy to get out of here with two wins", commented Cougars Head Coach Steve Burrows.

The losses over the weekend drops Saskatchewan to a 1-3 record. Next up for the Huskies includes a bye week and then they are back at the Physical Activity Complex on November 25 & 26 to take on the Brandon Bobcats. Tickets are available at HuskieTickets.com.
