EDMONTON - In a game with massive playoff implications for both sides, the Alberta Golden Bears and Saskatchewan Huskies clawed out a 1-1 draw, Sunday afternoon at Foote Field.
It's the second-straight 1-1 draw between the rivals, with the two sides meeting on September 2nd in Saskatoon.
The Bear's Adam Parker scored his first career goal in the 30th minute, while
Ahmed Mohammed found the equalizer in the 72nd for Saskatchewan. In what was a clinic put on by both goalkeepers, Bears keeper Chris Ezoua turned in nine saves, with Huskies starter
Jaron Slopinski making seven saves.
The draw is the Bears 6th, as their CW record now stands at 4-1-6. The draw is the third for the 2-6-3 Huskies, who remain on the outside of the playoff picture looking in.
Alberta came out the stronger side, outshooting Saskatchewan 10-4 in the opening 45. Parker opened the scoring with a shot from 15 yards out, that slid into the bottom of the Huskies net.
Ezoua would ensure Alberta held a 1-0 lead at the half, turning in a remarkable diving save on a Mohammed rocket in the 39th minute.
Slopinski made a handful of excellent saves early in the second, highlighted by a diving stop on a David Chung penalty attempt in the 50th.
Diego Reveco, who led the Huskies with six shot attempts on Sunday, had a handful of good looks in the second, but each were stopped by Ezoua. Mohammed, who was buzzing all game, found the game tying goal in the 70th, beating Ezoua off a rebound originated from a Reveco shot.
