SASKATOON – On a cool fall evening, the undefeated Mount Royal Cougars took on the hometown Saskatchewan Huskies.
With the Huskies looking to battle their way into the playoffs, they faced up against a tough Mount Royal Cougars team currently leading the way in the Prairie division.
Mount Royal had the first offensive chances of the game recording two shots on target in the opening 19 minutes, but both were stopped by the Huskies rookie goaltender
Jaron Slopinski.
The opening half provided to be a defensive battle that saw only two shots on target combined with both coming from the Cougars in the opening 20 minutes.
The second half opened with both teams recording a shot on target in the first seven minutes but neither team was able to find the back of the net.
Neither team was willing to give an inch and the defensive battle went right to final whistle. The final score was 0 – 0 giving the Huskies a much-needed draw in their late season playoff push.
Jaron Slopinski got the start for the Huskies recording four saves on the night. Sterling Kerr was in net for the Cougars finishing with 3 saves in the match.
The match had six cautions handed out, MRU picked up five yellow cards and USask picked up one.
The Huskies are back in action for their final home game Sunday at 2:00pm in Saskatoon vs the Calgary Dinos. All Canada West games can be watched on CanadaWest.TV.
