SASKATOON, Sask. - After putting the conference on notice with a 51-14 Homecoming victory last Friday, the U SPORTS No. 5-ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies will look to extend their perfect record this Saturday when they travel to Winnipeg to take on the winless Manitoba Bisons in the 136th meeting between the two programs.

Looking Ahead
In their most recent meeting, an undefeated Manitoba team left Griffiths in week six of the 2024 with their first and only loss of the campaign. The Huskies handed a then—No. 7-ranked Bisons team a 42-24 loss, thanks to standout performances from quarterback
Anton Amundrud (293 yds, 2 TDs), running back
Ryker Frank (166 yds, 2 TDs), and receivier
Dawson Lennea (7 rec, 162 yds, 1 TD). The Huskie defence also held 2024 Canada West Player of the Year Jackson Tachinski, to one of his worst outings of the season (212 yds, 0 TDs, 2 INTs), as the Dogs avenged a Week 1 loss to the Bisons and improved to 3-3.
This season Saskatchewan has flipped the script. The Dogs head to Winnipeg with an undefeated record while it is the Bisons who have struggled to open the season, falling to 0-2 through the opening weeks.
The Huskies enter Week 3 coming off their most dominant performance since Week 8 of the 2023 season (def. Regina 43-11) after handing the No. 8-ranked UBC Thunderbirds a 51-14 loss at Griffiths. The game featured an outstanding performance from Amundrud who tore up the T-Bird defence for a career-high 418 yards and matched his career-best with four majors. Two of his touchdown passes were to All-Canadian receiver
Daniel Wiebe, who ran all over the field for 190 yards on nine catches. Running back
Ryker Frank also once again showed why he is one of the best backs in the country, recording 161 total yards as the fifth-year student-athlete continues to chase down program records for career rushing yards (846 away) and all-purpose yards (1,144 away).
Meanwhile the Bisons return to Winnipeg for their home-opener with an 0-2 record after dropping contests to UBC (21-9) and most recently, the Calgary Dinos. Last week's game saw over 36 minutes of action pass between Manitoba scores, ultimately coming down to a two-point convert attempt with 30 seconds remaining — which the Bisons failed to convert. In what has been a drastic turnaround for the Bisons early in the season, the team is averaging just 11.5 points per game after leading the conference with 31.4 just a season ago.
Similairly to last week's meeting with UBC, fans of both programs should expect a high-scoring affair this Saturday. In the previous 10 meetings between the Huskies and Bisons, the teams have averaged a combined 57.5 points with just two totaling fewer than 50. Of those 10 head-to-head meetings, Saskatchewan owns an 8-2 record over the Bisons, including a pair of postseason wins in the 2022 Hardy Cup Semifinal (37-9) and the 2021 Hardy Cup (45-17).
Saskatchewan and Manitoba will meet again later this season in Week 8, with the Bisons set to visit Saskatoon for the 2025 Canada West regular season finale.
