SASKATOON, Sask. - Following the completion of just his second season with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, forward Easton Thimm will be taking his talents to the SaskTel Centre this summer after being selected 23rd overall by the Saskatchewan Rattlers in the 2025 Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) Draft Thursday (Apr. 10) night. 

Thimm becomes the eleventh Huskie to hear his name called on draft day, joining former USask student-athletes Michael Linklater, Shane Osayande, Troy Gottselig, Nervens Demosthene, Chan De Ciman (2), Tyrese Potoma, and Alexander Dewar (3). It also marks the sixth time in seven seasons in which a Huskie has been selected in the draft, dating back to the league's inaugural 2019 season.

After joining the Huskies ahead of the 2023-24 season, the Holy Cross High School product instantly became an impact player, averaging 22 minutes, 9.8 points, and 8.4 rebounds in his rookie season on his way to be named the Canada West Rookie of the Year and earning a spot on the U SPORTS All-Rookie Team. This past season as a sophmore, Thimm was once again a critical piece to Huskies, both offensively and defensively. 

A 6-foot-9 forward from Saskatoon, Thimm played nearly 30 minutes a game in 2024-25 while starting all 20 regular season contests for the Dogs. The business major also increased his production at both ends of the floor, averaging a double-double with 13.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game to go along with seven blocks and 25 steals. A disruptive force in the paint, he is also an efficient scorer with a 51.5% career shooting percentage. 

The selection of Thimm in the 2025 draft adds to a long list of Huskie-Rattler connections with former Huskie head coach Barry Rawlyk currently serving as Vice President of Basketball Operations, alumni Rob Lovelace recently promoted to Lead Assistant Coach, and Huskie Health members Nic Hallgrimson, Stephanie Peppler, Trevor Nerdahl, and Shayne Hayward all serving roles with the Rattlers. 

Thimm and the Rattlers will tip-off the 2025 season at home on May 15 when they play host to the Vancouver Bandits at the SaskTel Centre.
