SASKATOON, Sask.- After a narrow five-set loss on Friday, the Saskatchewan Huskies men's volleyball team responded with a statement win on Saturday night (Nov. 8) at the Physical Activity Complex (PAC), defeating the Brandon Bobcats 3–1. With the victory, the Huskies move to 4–5 on the season and split the weekend series, showing resilience and poise in front of a home crowd.
The Huskies came out strong in the opening set, establishing control early with sharp serving and confident swings. Saskatchewan's front line was dominant at the net, producing several key blocks that disrupted Brandon's attack and set the tone for the night. Setter
Noah Opseth ran an efficient offence, connecting smoothly with his hitters as the Huskies cruised to a decisive 25–15 first set win.
Saskatchewan carried that momentum into the second, continuing to control the pace of play. Consistent serve receive allowed for balanced distribution across the court, with
Emmett Graham and
Isaiah Mamer leading the offensive push. The Huskies' steady defensive presence, anchored by
Ethan Smith in the back row, limited Brandon's opportunities and secured a 25–19 win to go up 2–0 in the match.
The Bobcats refused to back down, tightening their block and capitalizing on Huskie errors to edge out a 25–23 win in the third. But Saskatchewan quickly regained composure. In the fourth, the home side reasserted their control through strong transition play and timely kills, highlighted by
Mathieu Methot's presence at the net and Graham's continued offensive rhythm.
The Huskies closed the door in the fourth set, taking it 25–21 to seal the 3–1 victory and wrap up a split weekend at home. Graham led the attack with a match-high 19 kills, while Opseth contributed 45 assists.
Saturday's win showcased Saskatchewan's ability to bounce back and execute under pressure. After dropping a close one the night before, the Huskies' balanced attack and defensive consistency earned them a well deserved win.
The Huskies will look to build on their performance as they return to the PAC next weekend (Nov. 14 & 15) to host the Winnipeg Wesmen.
