SASKATOON, SK – After spending the previous few weekends on the road, the Saskatchewan Huskies headed into the weekend ready to finally play some basketball on their home court, their last hurrah at home this season. Despite sitting multiple seats lower in the Canada West rankings, the Huskies would apply constant pressure and come out with an upset victory over the Cougars, 73-70.
THE HIGHLIGHTS

After five played, Regina would lead the game, but the Huskies would only trail by a bucket. The Cougars would add another two to their score, but a three and two made free throws from Fisayo Moibi, which would put the Huskies in the lead (13-11).

A three from Emmanuel Bonsu in the quarter's final seconds would put the Huskies up by 4 (21,17).

The Cougars would finally grasp the lead with a deep three, making it 41-40 at the halfway mark of the third, but Easton Thimm would take back the lead for the Huskies with a layup seconds later.

The two teams would continue to go back and forth, basket-for-basket, for the remainder of the quarter. Tyrese Potoma would make a layup to make it 53-52 for the Huskies with less than 15s to play.

The Cougars would get to shoot two with 4s to finish the quarter, making one free throw and a layup off the second rebound, making it 53-55 for the Cougars heading into the fourth.

Both teams refused to let up in the fourth, continuing to battle back and forth. The Huskies would lead 64-63 with five minutes to play. The two teams would continue to fight back and forth for the lead.

A deep three from Emmanual Bonsu with just over a minute to play would put the Huskies up by two (72-70), forcing Regina to call a timeout with a minute to play.

In desperate defensive efforts, a shooting foul would be called against Regina and Chan De Ciman would step up to the line for the Huskies with second left. De Ciman would miss his first free throw, but drain the second to ultimately secure the win for the Huskies.

Regina's Lodie Kenyi would lead the night in points, having 26 points.

Emmanuel Bonsu would lead the Huskies in the scoring race with 18 points. Teammate, Tyrese Potoma would have a 15 point night, and Fisayo Moibi right behind with 12.

Saskatchewan would for 18 points off of turnovers while Regina would have 11.

The Huskies would have 51 bench points and the Cougars would have 20 from their bench.
THE STANDINGS
The Huskies enter the weekend with a record of 8-7, the win moving them to 9-7. The Cougars came into the weekend with a record of 13-3, the loss shifting them to 13-4.
THE EXTRAS
Not only is this weekend the Huskie basketball teams' final weekend at home, but is the basketball edition of the U-Prairie Challenge presented by SaskMilk.
The U Prairie Challenge, presented by SaskMilk, celebrates varsity sports in Saskatchewan. This annual points-based competition between the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan involves 11 different men's and women's events, including soccer, football, hockey, volleyball, basketball, track and field, and cross country.

The two teams will return to Ron & Jane Graham Centre Court at the Physical Activity Complex for a rematch and to determine the ultimate winner of the U-Prairie Challenge on Saturday evening at 5:00 PM. Tomorrow's game is also our senior night, where Huskie Athletics will celebrate our fifth-year basketball players in their final game at home in green, black, and white.
