SETTING THE STAGE
In the regular season finale for both teams, the Saskatchewan Huskies looked to sweep the Manitoba Bison this weekend, and in the 2023-2024 season series. The Huskies picked up an 8-2 home ice victory last night over these same Bisons.
Coming into the game tonight the Huskies sported a record of 19-6-1-1, good for 4th place in Canada West standings and 7-1-1-1 in their last 10, and streaking at 3-0-1. The Bison were 5-21-1, 8th place in Canada West standings and 3-7-0 in their last 10. The Huskies were 8-4-1 on home ice, while the Bison were 3-9-1 on the road.
TONIGHT
Saskatchewan started Jordan Kooy in net tonight, while the Bisons countered with Kolby Thornton. Kooy came into the game sporting a 2.35 GAA, 6th in Canada West and a record of 8-3-1. Thornton came onto the game with a 3.93 GAA, 12th in Canada West and a record of 2-13-1.
The Huskies peppered the Bisons with 46 shots and scored five times to earn the 5-2 win, and the weekend and season sweep of their rivals from Manitoba. Chantz Petruic scored twice for the Huskies, Cohner Saleski scored his 1st Canada West goal, while Raphael Pelletier and Carter Stebbings added singles. The Bisons were led by Saskatoon's Josh Paulhus who scored Manitoba's lone two goals.
THE HIGHLIGHTS

The Huskies opened the scoring with 6:46 left in the opening frame when Chantz Petruic (14) went five-hole on Thornton.

Just over two minutes later, at the 4:12 mark of the opening frame, Raphael Pelletier (13) blasted a snap-shot from the slot past Thornton to make the score 2-0 for the home team Huskies.

Just 1:30 into the second period the Manitoba Bisons closed the gap when Saskatoon's Josh Paulhus (5) went short-side on Kooy to make the score 2-1 Huskies.

The Huskies Carter Stebbings (12) made it 3-1 when a 2 on 1 ended up with the puck deflecting off his skate into the open net.

Bisons Josh Paulhus (6) scored his second of the game right off the face-off as he banged in a rebound deep in the Huskie zone at the 10:39 mark of the middle frame. 3-2 Huskies.

The Huskies Chantz Petruic (15) scored his second of the night into the empty net to give the home team the 4-2 lead.

Cohner Saleski (1) scored his first Canada West and U SPORTS goal just second later into the open net to give the Huskies the 5-2 win and weekend and season sweep of the Bisons.
