REGINA, Sask. - A goal in extra time by Saskatchewan's Alyssa D'Agnone ended the University of Regina's women's soccer team's slim chances of making the postseason as the Cougars and Huskies played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night in a U-Prairie Challenge battle at the U of R Field.

The Cougars struck in the ninth minute of Saturday's contest on a beautiful passing play which saw six different U of R players touch the ball in a span of 10 seconds. At the end of the play, Peyton Enns sent in a cross from the right which was finished off by the left foot of Kristen Koellmel.

The first half was evenly played with both teams attempting six shots and Saskatchewan holding a 4-3 advantage in shots on net.

After halftime it was a bit of a different affair as the Huskies had the advantage of a light northwest wind at their backs. Saskatchewan fired 13 shots in the general direction of Regina keeper Kareena Andersen, but only 2 of them hit the net - one in the 55th minute on a shot by Jade Houmphanh which Andersen handled, and the other in injury time on the goal by D'Agnone.

About a minute and a half into injury time, Jenna Steacy sent a long, high ball up to D'Agnone with three Cougar defenders in the vicinity. D'Agnone went to work, evading the U of R pressure and knocking in a low, hard shot to the left corner to pull Saskatchewan level with her ninth goal of the campaign.

Saturday's result not only clinched a playoff berth for Saskatchewan, but also for Alberta as the fourth-place Pandas can't be caught by Manitoba or Regina. Calgary and MacEwan will be the other two Prairie Division postseason teams.

The Huskies will finish close out the 2024 regular season with a pair of road games in Winnipeg. They'll take on the Manitoba Bisones on Saturday afternoon and the Winnipeg Wesmen on Sunday.
