CALGARY, Alta. – The U SPORTS No. 4-ranked Calgary Dinos men's hockey team were undone by three unanswered goals by the No. 9-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies in a 4-1 decision at Father David Bauer Arena on Saturday night.
The Dinos drop their second consecutive game and now have a 2-1-1 record, while the Huskies continue their impressive season-opening run and sport a 4-0-0 record.
Saskatchewan got the game's first goal mid-way through the opening period when Ben Tkachuck converted on a pass rimmed around the boards by
Cole Jordan for his second of the season.
Calgary's Gengenbach held off several Huskies and tied the game with his fourth goal of the season later in the first period.
After a scoreless middle frame, the Dinos could not hold off the Huskies special teams. First it was a shorthanded goal by
Dawson Holt that broke the tie seven minutes into the third period. Just over two minutes later, an impressive power play goal by
Josh Pillar doubled the road team's lead.
For Holt, he brings his season total to eight points through the first four games while Pillar earned his fourth of the campaign.
Chantz Petruic then delivered the dagger with five minutes remaining in the game, bringing his point total to six while making it 4-1
Saskatchewan got another strong performance from their goaltender on Saturday. This time,
Jordan Kooy quietened the Dinos and finished with 24 saves. Kooy now has two wins on the season and sports an impressive 1.50 goals against average and .941 save percentage.
