SASKATOON, SK – The Saskatchewan Huskies and MacEwan Griffins took to the ice at Merlis Belsher Place Saturday evening for game two of the weekend match-up after the Huskies defeated the Griffins 2-0 in game one Friday evening in their annual Play for a Cure game.
The Griffins played the Saskatchewan Huskies back and forth all game Saturday evening but needed help to overcome the Huskies' strong goaltending and solid defensive play. Kelsey Hall's third-period snap-shot proved the winner as the Huskies took the games 2-1 and the season series 4-0, extending their winning streak to six games and remaining undefeated in 2024.
THE HIGHLIGHTS

Colby Wilson got the start between the post for the Huskies. At the 5th start of the season, she had a 2.98 GAA. On back-to-back nights, the MacEwan Griffins countered with Brianna Sank, who came in with a 3.66 GAA.

The Huskies opened the scoring just past the halfway mark of the opening frame when Sophie Lalor (10) snuck one in while on the power play.

The MacEwan Griffin responded quickly with 5:19 remaining in the opening frame to make it 1-1 when Joie Simon (2) deflected a shot from the point that got behind Colby Wilson.

Both teams went scoreless in the second period with many shots and close calls from both sides, but nothing got past Wilson or Sank.

In exactly nine minutes and thirteen seconds into the second period, Ava Bergman won a faceoff deep in the Griffin zone, and Kelsey Hall (7) buried it past Brianna Sank with a one-timer to put the Huskies up 2-1, which proved to be the game-winning goal for the Huskies.
