MSOC: Tough Loss for Huskies Against WolfPack

KAMLOOPS, BC – An incredible performance from Huskie goaltender Jaron Slopinski greeted fans in Kamloops on Saturday night as Saskatchewan continued their BC road trip against the Thompson Rivers WolfPack. TRU's Akwasi Agyekum would net the only goal of the game, taking the 1-0 win for the WolfPack.

Slopinski turned in a great performance in net for the Huskies with six saves to his name, while Syvatik Artemenko recorded his first career shutout with the WolfPack.

Agyekum, who was named MVP of last year's U SPORTS National Championship, provided the goal for TRU with Mikkel Rosenlund earning an assist.

TRU came out of the gates quick and were rewarded with a goal nine minutes in. Patrick Izett sent a ball into the box from a set piece that Rosenlund headed back across the face of goal to Akyegum who powered it into the back of the net.

Saskatchewan had their best chance of the game right before halftime. Diego Reveco went on a great run and played a perfect pass to the foot of a charging Robert Woodroffe-Brown but his effort sailed high.

Slopinski was the story early in the second frame making great saves on TRU's Ryan Lewis and Alessandro Comita to keep the Huskies in the game.

The Huskies rallied late and substitute Rajesh Rodney brought some attacking energy but the WolfPack defence was able to hold tight and limit any scoring chances.

The loss moves Saskatchewan to 1-4-3 in the Prairie Division and are just outside the playoff picture with six games left in the regular season. TRU improved to 2-5-1 after starting the year 0-5-0.
