MBB: Huskies Drop Series to Golden Bears

SASKATOON, SK – The Saskatchewan Huskies completed their final regular season weekend at home with a clean sweep of the Alberta Panda. Saturday night final score was 79-67 in favour of the Dogs.

Both teams kept it consistent with the same starters as last night – starting five for the Huskies consisted of Erwin Loic, Tyrese Potoma, Alexander Dewar, Fisayo Moibi and Maxwell Amoafo. Down the court, the Golden Bears starters were Lars Ishimwe, Isaac Simon, Brandon Meiklejohn, Abdullah Shittu and Adam Paige.

The Huskies started out strong and stayed within points after the first five minutes. However, the offensive momentum shifted throughout with three lead changes in the opening quarter. Julian Vaughns came off the Golden Bears bench to led in scoring with 7 points – this allowed for Alberta to pull in front 24-15.

Both teams came out hot in the second quarter. The Huskies and Bears shot 42.9% and 48.6% from the field respectively. However, Alberta stayed on top throughout, and the half ended 46-37 in their favour.

The Golden Bears pulled further in front when Adam Paige went on a 7-point run to make his total 13.  The third and fourth quarter remained in the hands of Alberta as they held the lead throughout. The Huskies ultimately fell 69-84.

Leading the Huskies was Alexander Dewar with 23 points and 6 rebounds. The Golden Bears were led by a starter and a sixth man – Adam Paige and Julian Vaughns added 21 and 20 points respectively.
