MHKY: Huskies Fall 3-1 to Cougars

SASKATOON, SK – The Saskatchewan Huskies (11-3) welcomed the Mount Royal Cougars (11-5) to Merlis Belsher Place on Friday night. As expected, teams were well matched, and it showed on the ice. The Huskies were looking to add to their win tally, but a talented Cougars showed up to MBP and left with the 3-1 Friday night win. 
 
THE HIGHLIGHTS
  • Seventeen seconds in, MRU's Connor Bouchard found his way past Huskie goaltender Roddy Ross to put the Cougars up 1-0.
  • Fourth year forward Justin Ball would score the power play equalizer late in the period to tie the game 1-1 heading into the first intermission.
  • Neither team was able to find the goal in the second. Saskatchewan had two power play opportunities in the period, and Mount Royal had one, but teams couldn't find a way to capitalize. 
  • The Cougars came to play in the third period. Spencer Moe notched his sixth goal of the season midway through the period. Exactly a minute later at 8:37, Jaden Senkoe got his fourth goal of the season to give MRU a 3-1 lead over the Huskies. 
THE STATS
  • Shane Farkas would get the win in net for the Cougars, stopping 26 of 27 shots. Roddy Ross would go 24 for 27. Both teams were even on the night with shots on goal with 27 apiece. 
  • MRU's Connor Bouchard continues to light up the ice. Canada West's leading scorer added a goal and an assist on the evening. 
  • MRU was 1 for 4 on the powerplay, with the Huskies going 1 for 6.
