WHKY: Red Hot Drever Cools off Dinos in 3-1 Win

CALGARY, AB – The University of Calgary Dinos women's hockey team was forced to settle for a weekend split after a 35-save outing by Camryn Drever secured a 3-1 win for the Saskatchewan Huskies at Father David Bauer Arena.

The Dinos out-chanced the Huskies over two games, but the turning point on Saturday night came early in the second period. Saskatchewan seized momentum after a successful four-minute penalty kill and grabbed a two-goal lead seven minutes into the middle frame.

Drever made 15 of her saves in the third to deny a Calgary comeback.

The Huskies improve their record to 8-3-1, while the Dinos slip to 3-8-1.

The scoring got started early as Saskatchewan capitalized on a turnover 87 seconds into the contest. A Dinos' breakout pass was mishandled and bounced directly to Mallory Dyer who released a quick shot to beat Gabriella Durante.

The Dinos responded on the power play at the 4:36 mark of the first period when a Brooklin Fry point shot sailed through a maze of players and past Drever.

Calgary piled up the scoring chances in the opening minutes of the second period, but the Saskatchewan netminder kept the game scoreless and gave her team the boost they needed.

With the first shot of the second, Sophie Lalor put the Huskies ahead 2-1. Minutes later off a scrum, Taylor Wilkinson added an insurance marker with Durante out of the crease and unable to get to the puck.

Calgary mustered up several opportunities to cut into the deficit in the final 20 minutes, but each time Drever was up to the test, including a robbery of Calgary's Kyla Mitenko on a cross-crease save.

Durante finished the evening with 17 saves for Calgary.
