MSOC: Huskies Fall to Griffins

SASKATOON – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies battled through the heat but ultimately fell short to the MacEwan Griffins at Griffiths Stadium on Sunday. MacEwan led the Huskies early and worked their way to a final score of 0-2.

MacEwan's Ousman Maheshe put them on the board with a goal in the 17th minute.

The Huskies held out defensively for the rest of the first half and into the second however, Raken Yassin added MacEwan's lead in the 64th minute.

Jaron Slopinksi started in goal for the Huskies, turning away three shots. Josh Stayko got the start for the Griffins.

"I thought the guys pushed along as the game went on. It's easy to get down on themselves, but they pushed along and battled through a difficult afternoon, a good side, and plus 35, you could see it wore on them," said Huskies head coach Bryce Chapman. "We have to be honest with ourselves. I thought we made way too many errors and gave the ball away far too much to be successful in the Canada West. So we've got to adjust a few things as, as we prepare for next weekend's match."

Huskies are on the road this weekend and are back in action against the University of Calgary Dinos this Friday.
