Huskies Fall Short Against Wesmen

WINNIPEG - The University of Saskatchewan Huskies men's basketball team fell to an 8-4 record after a Saturday night loss to the hometown Winnipeg Wesmen. The Huskies were unable to overcome an 18 point deficit in the first quarter and were defeated 86-78. The loss snaps the Huskies 6-game winning streak.

Alexander Dewar, who had 34 points on Friday night, led all scorers on Saturday with 23 points. Marquavian Stephens put up 16 points and 6 rebounds in the losing effort.

For the Wesmen, Eric Racine scored 21 points, and Nikolov Spas recorded a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

The Wesmen jumped out to an early lead in the opening ten minutes of play, with their largest lead being 22 points, and held on for the 8 point victory. The Huskies were able to cut the lead to 4 with a little more than three minutes left in the game but could not complete the comeback.

The Huskies will look to re-enter the win column on the road next weekend against the Manitoba Bisons (6-6).
