Huskies bounce back, take down Dinos

After falling in their preseason opener on Friday night, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies men's hockey team responded with a 6-4 win over the visiting Calgary Dinos.

The win makes Saskatchewan 1-1-0 in preseason play, with another eight games on their exhibition calendar before the regular season begins on Oct. 22.

Alex Zawatzky was the story of the game for the Huskies, tallying two goals in the win in his first career game as a member of the Huskies.

Along with Zawatzky, fellow first-years Chantz Petruic and Zane Franklin each recorded their first goals in the green and white.

University of Alaska Anchorage transfer Brayden Camrud picked up two helpers on the night, while Donovan Neuls found twine for the second-straight evening.

Roddy Ross got the start between the pipes for the Huskies, allowing four goals on 16 shots before giving way to Josh Dias midway through the contest who shut the door the rest of the way.

At the opposite end of the ice, Saskatoon native Kaden Elder led the way for Calgary, tallying a goal and an assist, while Noah King and Josh Rieger also had two-point nights for the visitors.

The Huskies are back in action on Thursday night at Merlis Belsher Place, as they welcome the visiting Regina Cougars to town.

Calgary and Saskatchewan will re-acquaint themselves with one another in November, when the Huskies head west for a two-game series with the Dinos at Father David Bauer Arena.
