SASKATOON - The University of Saskatchewan Huskies men's hockey team had a comeback for the ages with a 7-4 win over the visiting Mount Royal Cougars at Merlis Belsher Place.
Things looked bleak for the Huskies, as the visitors hopped out to a 4-1 lead after a powerplay goal at the midway point of the second period. But from then on it was all Saskatchewan.
A pretty passing play resulted in Dawson Holt roofing his fifth of the season, to cut the deficit to two after two. The Huskies went on to score five times in the third period, with Jared Dmytriw netting the go-ahead goal with under five minutes remaining in the third period.
Wyatt Johnson had two goals on the night, including his first since Oct. 19, 2019, while Shane Collins, Justin Ball and Carter Folk all also found the back of the net for the Huskies.
Robbie Holmes scored twice for Mount Royal, while Riley Lindgren and Kyle Walker all notched their second goals of the season.
Roddy Ross got the second start in as many nights and rewarded Babcock with a 29-save win.
On the opposite end of the ice, Riley Sims stopped 21 of 27 shots he faced.
With the win, the Huskies moved to 9-3-0, while Mount Royal fell to 6-5-0.
The contest served as the final game of the calendar year for both the Huskies and Cougars. Saskatchewan will resume conference action on Jan. 14 and 15 in a home-and-home with the Regina Cougars.
