At last, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies men's hockey team is back on home ice.
The Huskies return to Merlis Belsher Place for the first-time since the Nov. 12 and 13 weekend, a building where they have yet to lose this season.
Saskatchewan has outscored their opponents 18-5 in home games during 2021-22 and will look to continue that trend this weekend, as they take on the Mount Royal Cougars.
The Huskies have had their way with the Cougars over the past four seasons, holding a 13-3-0 record and a 6-2-0 record on home ice dating back to the 2016-17 season.
Saskatchewan and Mount Royal both will be looking to snap slides, as the Huskies enter the weekend on a three-game losing streak, while the Cougars have lost two of their last three.
Despite the losing-streak, Saskatchewan remains the number-four ranked team in the nation, behind only the UNB Reds, UBC Thunderbirds and Alberta Golden Bears.
But Mount Royal is a quality program in their own right. The Cougars are on the tails of the Huskies in the conference standings, trailing the defending conference champions by just a single-point.
Mount Royal boasts the conference's two leading scorers in Nolan Yaremko and Riley Sawchuk, who have 20 and 19 points in 10 games this season. Meanwhile, first-year forward Bradley Kennedy enters the weekend on a four-game point-streak, with three goals and three assists during that stretch.
The Huskies are led by Zane Franklin, Connor Hobbs, and Donovan Neuls, who are all averaging a point-per-game this season.
As mentioned, this is the last time Saskatchewan will be in action in the calendar year, with their next time suiting up on home ice not slated until Jan. 21 and 22.
