CALGARY – Noah King's goal at 4:07 of the third period secured a 2-1 win for the University of Calgary Dinos as they flipped the script versus the University of Saskatchewan Huskies on Saturday night at Father David Bauer Arena.
Following an identical 2-1 result on Friday night that saw the Huskies need overtime to end the game, the Dinos were able to grab two points in regulation and handed Saskatchewan their first loss of the season.
With the win, the Dinos (6-3-1) pull within one point of the first-place Huskies (7-1-0).
The Huskies opened the scoring while four-on-four at 9:04 of the first period. Saskatchewan's captain Gordon Ballhorn fired a one-timer past Brodan Salmond for his third goal of the season.
The Dinos responded with three minutes remaining in the opening period. Tim Vanstone took a cross-ice pass from Josh Maser and slid the puck under the pad of Travis Child for his second goal of the year.
Following a scoreless second period, Calgary's King found the back of the net early in the third as he carried the puck through the neutral zone, alone, and fired a shot past Child. The Huskies had their opportunities to draw even during a pair of power plays, but Calgary held on for the one-goal victory.
The Dinos outshot the Huskies 27-26. Both Salmond and Child finished with 25 saves.
The Dinos will travel to Regina to close out the first half of the season as they take on the Regina Cougars, while the Huskies will make the trip to Vancouver to face the UBC Thunderbirds, Nov. 26-27.
