SASKATOON – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies men's basketball team will host playoff action in Saskatoon for the fourth season in a row when they take on the Thompson Rivers WolfPack inside the PAC Friday night.

The game will be a winner take all affair with the sixth-seeded Huskies taking on the 11th-seeded WolfPack for the right to advance to the quarter-final stage of the Canada West playoffs.

After finishing their season playing two of the top teams in the nation over a three-week span, the Huskies wrapped up conference play with a 12-8 record. A pair of losses to the Alberta Golden Bears in Edmonton last weekend saw the Huskies fall by scores of 89-79 and 106-78.

Thompson Rivers will also enter the weekend after falling in their final games last weekend. With losses of 86-77 and 90-73, the WolfPack dropped their final six games of the regular season and haven't registered a win since January 18.

These two teams met earlier in the season, playing to a split in Kamloops. Alexander Dewar had 27 points as the team romped to an 89-69 victory on Friday night before the WolfPack bounced back for a tight 92-85 win on Saturday.

5 Things

1: Over their last three years of hosting playoff games the Huskies are 5-0 on home court. The team has picked up 2-0 quarter-final sweeps over the Winnipeg Wesmen (2016-17) and Regina Cougars (2018-19) and also defeated the Victoria Vikes in a play-in game (2017-18).

2: After missing out on the post-season in 2018-19, the WolfPack are back in the playoffs for the sixth time in the last seven years. Since becoming a member of Canada West, the WolfPack's deepest run in the playoffs was the 2015-16 season, when they finished second in the conference and qualified for the U SPORTS Final 8.

3: Saskatchewan had a pair of players finish in the top ten in conference scoring. JT Robinson averaged 18.6 points-per-game, good enough for eighth while Alexander Dewar finished tenth in conference scoring with 17.7 points.

4: The WolfPack are efficient in shooting the ball. They put up the fewest amount of shots in the conference but knock down 47.5 per cent of those shots, good enough for third.

5: Thompson Rivers is a veteran group. Three of their five starters are in their fifth year of eligibility compared to just one for Saskatchewan.
