HUSKIES SECURE HOSTING DUTIES IN FINAL FOUR WITH QUARTER-FINAL WIN

Box Score

With a 5-1 victory over the University of Winnipeg Wesmen in a Canada West Quarter-final match Sunday on Field 7 Saskatoon's PotashCorp Park, the No. 5 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies secured hosting duties in the Canada West Final Four.

Saskatchewan will host the conference championship tournament next weekend on Field 7 in Potash Corp Park. The Alberta Golden Bears (Prairie 2), UBC Thunderbirds (Pacific 1) and Victoria Vikes (Pacific 2) will join the Huskies in the tournament.

It is the third straight year Saskatchewan will appear in the Canada West Final Four and sixth time in program history. In 2003, the Huskies hosted as rotational hosts.

Saskatchewan opened scoring in the 39th minute when Garrett Peters got a head on a Brett Levis corner kick. It was the lone goal of the first half.

The Huskies struck twice more before Winnipeg was able to score. Bobbi Nicholat tallied for Saskatchewan in the 59th minute and Levis scored in the 74th minute.

On the next trip up the field, Winnipeg's Richie Rundle sent a quick shot past Huskie keeper Michal Bandual in the 75th minute.

Levis added his second goal of the game in the 81st minute on a free kick, while rookie Sam Whiting scored in the 90th minute on a cross-play from fellow rookie Bryce Marinus.

Despite the loss, Winnipeg keeper Joshua Partaker excelled in the net making 15 saves for the Wesmen. Bandula made two in the win for the Huskies. The Huskies outshot Winnipeg 30-5 in the match.

The Canada West Final Four is slated for Friday and Saturday. Match times will be 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. each day.
