SASKATOON – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies men's volleyball team is set to welcome the defending Canada West Champion Brandon Bobcats to the PAC this weekend

The two matchups will serve as a great measuring-stick opportunity for the Huskies, whose tremendous start to the season has them tied atop the conference with a 3-1 record.

Saskatchewan, who will conclude their four-game homestand at the PAC this Saturday night, are fresh off a sweep of UBC last weekend, as they picked up their third-consecutive victory.

Meanwhile, Brandon will enter the weekend fresh off a bye following their pair of 3-1 victories in their home-opening weekend. With their 2-0 record, the Bobcats are the lone unbeaten program remaining in the 12-team conference.

1: Â There a pair of exciting promotions going on at the PAC this weekend. On Friday you can join the Huskies in supporting Ronald McDonald House in Saskatoon by donating children's toys, winter wear and more. Saturday is Volleyball day in Saskatchewan and will see local volleyball players practicing with the Huskies prior to the game.

2: The Huskies are now 3-1 in Canada West action, matching the team's best start to a season since 2016-17.

3: Saskatchewan has not hosted Brandon in Canada West action since Nov. 26, 2016, when the Huskies picked up a four-set victory over the visitors.

4: The Bobcats have won their last four matches against the Huskies, with all four taking place at the Healthy Living Centre.

5: Since 2009, the Huskies have a 6-8 record against the Bobcats at the PAC.

Brandon, who went 20-2 last regular season on their way to their second Canada West title in program history. The program enters the 2019-20 campaign chasing their first national championship win after they came up one win short of a national title last season. The program is led by Grant Wilson, who was named the U SPORTS Coach of the Year last season.

The Huskies will be keyed on reigning U SPORTS Player of the Year Elliott Viles, who returns to the Brandon program for his fourth-year of eligibility. The Adelaide, Australia native became the second player in Bobcats history to earn the award, after finishing second in the Canada West. Viles kicked off his season with a nine-kill and 14-kill performances against the WolfPack last weekend.

Reece Dixon, Mason Metcalf, and Seth Friesen all were members of Team Canada's men's volleyball squad from the 2019 FISU Summer Universiade in Naples, Italy. The trio of Bobcats, who had a familiar face on the bench as Wilson served as an assistant coach, were teammates of Dylan Mortenson during the event, who represented the Huskies on the international stage.

Geneva, Switzerland native Robin Baghdady was named the Canada West Rookie of the Year last season, after a tremendous freshmen campaign where he finished third in hitting percentage and fourth in service aces per set. Baghdady tallied 19 kills over the team's opening weekend in Kamloops.
