SASKATOON – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies men's hockey team will return home to Saskatoon to take on the Regina Cougars at Merlis Belsher Place on Saturday night, where the clubs will conclude their home-and-home series after meeting up in Regina the previous night.
The Huskies and Cougars squared off earlier this season, where Saskatchewan swept the two-game series by recording a 4-2 win at home and following up that effort with a 4-1 victory in the Queen City.
The Huskies are coming off a split last weekend in Calgary, as the club was shutout against the Dinos by a score of 3-0 on the second night of two games in Calgary. The defeat was only the team's second loss in their last 16 games. Saskatchewan currently remains in first place in the Canada West, but arch-rival Alberta is nipping at their heals, as the Golden Bears are only one point back.
Meanwhile, Regina sits on the opposite end of the spectrum entering this weekend. The Cougars are currently nine points out of a playoff position and will be desperately seeking wins this as they attempt to chase down a postseason appearance. Regina enters the matchups with a 3-14-1 record and have won only once in their previous ten games.
5 Things
1: Saskatchewan has officially qualified for the postseason with ten games remaining in the regular season.
2: The Huskies remain entrenched at No. 3 in this week's U SPORTS Rankings, despite their split against the Dinos.
3: The Huskies will be looking for their third consecutive season sweep over the Cougars, with their last loss against their provincial rival taking place on Feb. 13, 2016, in Regina.
4: Saskatchewan's 3-0 loss to Calgary on Saturday night was the first time the Huskies have been shutout since Nov. 4, 2016.
5: The Huskies have only five home games remaining in the 2018-19 regular season.

Scouting the Cougars
Regina's last postseason appearance took place in the 2012-13 season, where they finished in sixth place in the Canada West before being swept in the first round of the playoffs by Manitoba. The Cougars are losers of 11 of their last 12 games and are heading towards missing the playoffs for the sixth consecutive season. Regina will be looking to kickstart a second-half surge against Saskatchewan this weekend, as they fight for their playoff lives.
