SASKATOON – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies men's basketball team will conclude their regular season home schedule this weekend as they play host to the Alberta Golden Bears in a two-game series.

The Huskies are fresh off a two-game sweep of the Mount Royal Cougars this past weekend in Calgary and will be looking to carry that momentum over. Saskatchewan holds a 9-7 record, good enough for seventh in the conference, but have the fifth-best RPI in the Canada West which ultimately decides the playoff order.

The Golden Bears sit third in the Canada West and wins in Saskatoon this weekend would help the team ensure the team is hosting a conference quarter-final at the Saville Community Sports Centre.

Alberta defeated Saskatchewan in both meetings last season, as they recorded 78-65 and 100-54 victories in Edmonton during the 2017-18 campaign.

Five Things

1: On Friday night, the team will honor the Bell Let's Talk campaign supporting awareness for mental health.

2: Fifth-year night will take place on Saturday night, as the team will pay tribute to Lawrence Moore and Joseph Barker, who will play their final regular season games at the PAC in their careers this weekend.

3: Moore was named the Canada West men's second star of the week after he recorded over 20 points in back-to-back games this past weekend.

4: The Golden Bears have stymied opponents on the defensive end. Alberta sits second in the conference in points allowed this season.

5: Alberta has won three of the past seven Canada West championships dating back to their to title in the 2011-12 campaign.

By the Numbers

0.3 – Lawrence Moore's put-back bucket with 0.3 seconds remaining pushed the Huskies to an 84-83 victory over the Mount Royal Cougars last Saturday night.

7 – The Golden Bears enter the weekend ranked at number seven in the nation.

11.4 – Former Canada West Rookie of the Year Brody Clarke leads the Canada West with 11.4 rebounds per game this season.

19.5 – Moore continues to excel in his final year with the Huskies. The Chicago, Ill. product sits second in the conference with 19.5 points per game.

Scouting the Golden Bears

Barnaby Craddock is currently in the midst of his 7th season at the helm of the program, and he has qualified his team for the postseason in each of his seasons at Alberta.

The Golden Bears had their nine-game winning streak snapped last weekend by UNBC, will hit the road this weekend. Alberta is 6-2 on the road this season but is 2-6 against Saskatchewan at the PAC since the 2010-11 season.

Brody Clarke is the only player in the Canada West averaging a double-double this season. Clarke is in the top ten in the conference in points per game, blocks, rebounds, free throws made and field goal percentage.

Rookie forward Shol Ayoch, a graduate of Athol Murray College of Notre Dame and native of Regina, will be playing in his first U SPORTS games in his home province this weekend.
