Men's Volleyball Gets Needed Win over TRU

Box Score

With a 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-17) win over the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Friday afternoon in Saskatoon, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies got exactly what they needed to stay in the Canada West men's volleyball playoff race.

Entering the weekend, the Huskies, now 12-11, needed to sweep the WolfPack in the final weekend of men's volleyball to have a chance at postseason life. The Huskies also need help with a sweep from either the Mount Royal Cougars or Winnipeg Wesmen.

TRU falls to 2-21 with the loss.

Andrew Nelson led the Huskies in the win recording 11 kills, while Colin Fraser added another nine. Zak Rempel and Tyler Epp each added seven kills.

Randy Grundmann led the TRU offense with a team-high 10 kills. Anton Napolitano added another five. He also led the WolfPack with six digs.

Tied at 17 in the first set, Saskatchewan took a five point 21-17 lead. The WolfPack didn't give up and pulled within one point three times before Nelson ended the opening game 25-23 for the Huskies.

In the second and third games, Saskatchewan jumped to early large leads that the WolfPack couldn't recover from. The Huskies won 25-14 and 25-17.

The two teams will meet again Saturday in the final regular season match of the season. First serve is at 8:30 p.m.
