The University of Saskatchewan Huskies held off a Brandon University Bobcats comeback with a 3-2 (25-14, 25-13, 18-25, 17-25, 15-12) win Saturday night at the PAC in Saskatoon.

After Saskatchewan looked like they would sail to a straight sets victory with quick 25-14, 25-13 wins in the first two sets, the Bobcats found their stride.

Tied at seven in the third set, Brandon began to break away. The Bobcats built a seven-point lead and Saskatchewan couldn't recover losing 25-18. Once again tied at seven, the Bobcats pulled away. Saskatchewan was able to keep within two points until a Nikala Majewski service run built a five-point lead. A Jodie Baker ace ended the fourth set 25-17. 

The teams tied nine times in the deciding set before an Emmalyn Copping attack and Sabrina Balisky and Marguerite Ferguson block gave the Huskies a two-point lead at 12-10. Brandon pulled within one with a block by Baker and Majewski, but Balisky and Taylor Annala ended the match at 15-12 with two straight kills.

With the weekend split Saskatchewan sits at 5-3 in the Canada West women's volleyball standings. Brandon is 1-7. A night earlier, the Bobcats won 3-2 (29-27, 18-25, 13-25, 25-20, 19-17).

Majewski led the Bobcats with 16 kills on the night, while Carmen Ross tallied another 14. Gillian Leech recorded 12 digs. 

Annala led the Huskies with 11 kills, while Copping had nine and Ferguson another eight. Definsively, the Huskies were strong with libero Jennifer Hueser and Copping each recorded 11 digs. Annala added another 10 for Saskatchewan. 

The Huskies remain at home to host the Manitoba Bisons next weekend, while Brandon plays in a home-and-home series with the Winnipeg Wesmen.
