Box Score University of Saskatchewan goaltender Ryan Holfeld opened his final CIS season with 34 saves in a 2-0 shutout over provincial rival the University of Regina Cougars Friday night in Saskatoon's Rutherford Rink.
The fifth-year Law student made 15 saves in the first, 8 in the second and another 11 in the third for the win. The shutout marks the eighth in his CIS career.
Despite allowing two goals, Lucas Gore was just as impressive at the other end of the ice making 25 saves for the Cougars.

Two first period goals by rookies were all Saskatchewan needed on the night.
Speedy newcomer Rhyse Dieno took advantage on a partial breakaway at 10:39 in the first period. His quick backhand shot beat Gore stick side. Michael Sofillas gave the Huskies a two goal lead five minutes later on a quick tic-tac-toe play in front of the Cougars net at 15:26.
Regina had an opportunity to mount a comeback with the Huskies taking two penalties in the final ten minutes of the third period. But couldn't capitalize.
The provincial foes will battle Saturday night in Regina. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
