Box Score With two first period goals, the No. 8 Mount Royal University Cougars defeated the University of Saskatchewan Huskies 4-1 Friday night in Saskatoon's Rutherford Rink.
Mount Royal didn't waste anytime getting on the board scoring just 1:49 into the game. Tyler Eskesen took a quick feed from Billy Marshall and David Stephens to give the Cougars the lead.
The Cougars weren't done. Connor Collett scored at 12:41 in the first period to give Mount Royal the 2-0 lead.

With the win, Mount Royal improves to 7-4-0 on the season, while Saskatchewan drops to 4-7-0. The loss marks the Huskies' seventh straight.
Saskatchewan had cut the Cougars' lead in half with a Josh Roach short handed goal at 12:11 in the third period. Mount Royal had the man advantage after Jeremy Margeson was caught for high sticking. Roach's goal came just 43 seconds into the power play.
Tyler Jewitt restored Mount Royal's two goal lead with a power play marker at 16:13. Roach was penalized for Saskatchewan for a check from behind.
Grant Baker scored the Cougars' insurance goal at 19:03 into the Saskatchewan empty net.
Dalyn Flett made 31 saves in the win for Mount Royal, while Ryan Holfeld stopped 28 at the other end of the ice for the Huskies.
The two teams will meet again Saturday night in Rutherford Rink. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
