Coming off a one-goal game the night before, the Horns and Huskies played an extremely tight checking first period. While the Huskies held a slim 11-10 shots advantage, neither team was able to muster a notable scoring chance.
The Huskies finally broke the deadlock at 8:58 of the second period. An aggressive forecheck by David Stumborg forced a Horns turnover on a failed clearing attempt. The puck eventually made its way to Josh Roach in the slot, who fired a wrist shot between the legs of Pronghorns goalie Warren Shymko
Horns winger Mike Forsyth had a great opportunity to tie the game up with eight minutes remaining in the second frame. The former Grande Prairie Storm broke down the right wing alone but was denied by the glove of Jordon Cook.
The Horns outshot the Huskies 11-7 in the second but were down 1-0 heading in the third frame.
Five minutes into the third period, Jesse Ross worked his way through the Pronghorns defense and had Shymko dead to rights for the insurance marker. Unfortunately for Ross, he was unable to beat the post, as what he had to have thought was a sure-fire goal rang off the post.
The lack of an insurance marker could have proven to be costly for the Huskies as three minutes later the Horns finally solved Cooke. Horns defenseman Ryan Aasman's blast from the point was redirected by Ryon Moser and fooled Cook as the low deflected puck bounced of the post and in, tying the game at one apiece.
The deadlock was short-lived as less than two minutes later Roach fought off a Horns defender on a breakaway and wired a snapshot off the crossbar and in for his second goal of the night.
The Huskies second goal proved to be the momentum changer that they were looking for. Less than 11 seconds later, a point shot hit Matthew Spafford, who spun around and beat Shymko low blocker to give the Huskies a two-goal lead.
Saskatchewan added a fourth goal with just over nine minutes remaining as a cross-crease pass from Josh Roach lead to an easy tap-in for Michael Sofillas.
With time dwindling down, Parker Thomas beat Shymko low blocker on the rush to round out the scoring and send the Huskies home with the weekend sweep.
Despite getting outshot by the 'Horns 9-7 in the third and 30-25 for the game, the Huskies sound defensive play prevented many quality scoring chances.
The loss moves the Horns to 3-13-0 on the season, while the Huskies improve to .500 at 8-8-0. The Horns look to head in to the winter break on a positive note, as they head out on the road to take on the Regina Cougars for a weekend series. Meanwhile, the Huskies come back to southern Alberta to visit the Mount Royal Cougars.
