Following a hard-fought weekend against the No. 1-ranked, defending U SPORTS champion Alberta Golden Bears, second year student-athlete Jacob Baird takes home Athlete of the Week honours. The product of Daisy Hill, Australia recorded 10.5 points Friday night in Edmonton with 9 kills and 1.5 blocks while lined up at his usual position, middle blocker. The following night, Baird was forced to make the switch to left-side hitter where he totaled 14.5 points with 11 kills and 3.5 blocks while converting on 35% of attacks. Baird is off to a hot start this season, having recorded the second-most points on the Huskies through six games (71.0) while ranking among the most effective blockers in the conference with 5 solo blocks (3rd) and 23 total blocks (8th).Â
